Bumrah can no longer change his action because that is what has got him success. He is a very daring fast bowler and I like the aggression in his bowling. I wish him a speedy recovery and a strong comeback.” Play Therefore.

Akhtar insisted that his action was side-on allowing him to use the thighs and arms to generate power but this is not the case with Bumrah as he leans on his back.

“When Jasprit Bumrah is loaded, it puts pressure on his spine. He moves with his back, while we are more side-on and may also use our thighs or arms. But he doesn’t have that leverage. If he plays every match, his action is not sustainable.”

The Pakistan great, who bowled the fastest ball in international cricket at 161.3 kmph, criticized the Indian team management for handling Bumrah’s workload properly.

“Bumrah could have been managed better and he himself could have realized which formats to play and choose. If I was part of the management, I would tell Bumrah to play only 3 out of 5 ODIs and then I would put him in the swimming pool.”

Akhtar further advised Bumrah to spend more time in the swimming pool and gym to strengthen his back.

“I would make him do 500 laps because swimming would help make his back more flexible. More time in the pool, in the gym, and stretching with weights will help make her back muscles and spine more flexible.”
