Jason Roy ‘extremely happy’ after hitting match-winning fifty on SRH debut

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday night ended a five consecutive losing streak in IPL 2021 and have Jason Roy to thank for it with the opener setting the base for a comfortable chase against Rajasthan Royals at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. . Roy made his SRH debut, replacing out-of-form David Warner, and made an immediate impact with 60 off 42 balls.

Roy hit eight fours and a six during his innings and also took the player of the match award. In the post-match presentation, the Englishman spoke of how he has been patient throughout the season while waiting for his chances.

When asked about his first innings for SRH, Roy said, “I feel very happy. Really grateful for the opportunity at Sunrisers. The training has been done, and the hard work is looking forward to this award.” Also grateful for – we had some great performances today.

The win was SRH’s second win of the season in 10 matches and it has kept alive their lackluster hopes of a top-four spot. Along with Wriddhiman Saha, Roy got off to a solid start with the opening pair adding 57 runs in five overs.

Saha was dismissed for 18 off 11, hitting two fours and a six during his brief stay.

“Saha was instrumental in that partnership. Allowed me to take a quick rest,” Roy said of his batting partner.

Sunrisers are still at the bottom of the pile and can get a maximum of 12 points, and expect other results as well to go in their favor for a place in the playoffs. “We have to keep our feet on the ground a lot. We had a tough tournament, but coming out today to chase a good total was extremely impressive. We need to redo the basics,” Roy said.

SRH will next face Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah on Thursday.
