Jan witnessed lowest per day crime in 3 yrs with top cop’s ‘mission possible’ | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: The city police had a sound start this year with the average per day crime, including the murder rate, remaining the lowest in the last three years in the month of January.
With CP Amitesh Kumar kicking off a series of anti-crime measures through his ‘mission possible’, the challenge would be to maintain the safety and security graph.
According to statistics of the city police, on an average, 20 cases were registered per day in January this year (611 in entire month), 24 per day in January 2021 (747 whole month). In January 2020, 21 cases per day (638 whole month).
On January 26 this year, a minimum nine offenses were registered in a day while the maximum 28 cases were registered on January 17 and 19.
In the first nine days of February this year, on an average 19 cases were registered per day which was less than the whole month’s average of 27 in February last year and 21 in February in 2020.
In January this year, 54 cases of housebreaking were registered, less than 74 in January 2021 and 58 in January 2020. Similarly, the police have claimed that robbery cases have come down from 22 in January last year to 15 this year while it was 13 in 2020. Thefts reduced from 242 last year to 199 this year in January, more than 187 in January in 2020.
Kumar said Nagpur’s historical mean of murders was around eight but it has been brought down by around 50% in December 2021 and again in January this year. “The average cases getting registered in a month in Nagpur city had been around 800 since last several years but this year we could restrict it to little more than 600,” said the top cop, adding the police has been working on ‘mission possible’ since the last one year.
“The state’s highest Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act against hardened goons had taken place in Nagpur. We had been stringently taking preventive actions for last one year but the results have started showing now, from towards the end of last year,” said Kumar, adding, basic policing of preventive action, police presence at public places and pro-active measures like curtailing response time, stress on detections and investigations were made the fulcrum of the department’s functionality.
The CP said the police managed to curtail serious offenses which remained a top challenge over the years. “On an average, around 80-90 cases of injuries were being registered per month every year. We brought it down and now are aiming for 60-65 per month by chasing and sending goons with such tendencies behind bars invoking various types of preventive measures and legal provisions,” said Kumar.
In 2022, the CP said the aim is to raise the bar of policing to ensure a prevailing ‘feel good’ factor and high security index among masses and stakeholders. “The closure of the red-light area and such activities helped lower central Nagpur’s crime rate considerably,” he said.
MEASURES WHICH HELPED
* Maximizing preventive action
* Preventing crime with the quickest possible response time
* Detecting cases getting registered on war footing
* Pressing for cancellation of bail of goons
* Stepping up police presence and checking on roads
