Four people were arrested on Friday for kidnapping a businessman and his employee in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur and taking Rs 14 lakh as ransom. A senior police officer gave this information.
Businessman Akash Sinha and his employee Shivam Singh were abducted by a gang of 11 people from near a club on May 27. However, he was released the next day after paying Rs 14 lakh as ransom. Soon after his release, Akash Sinha, a resident of Jamshedpur lodged an FIR against unknown criminals at the Golmuri police station.
60 lakh rupees were demanded as ransom
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) M. Tamil Vanan said the kidnappers had demanded Rs 60 lakh as ransom for their release. Addressing a press conference, the SSP said that the kidnappers, who came in a four-wheeler, had taken businessman Akash Sinha and his employee home in an empty car and asked them to transfer the money online.
Was released after getting Rs 13 lakh
They (the kidnappers) contacted Sinha’s family members and got Rs 13 lakh in case the amount was not transferred online. Before dropping Sinha and his employee near Agriko intersection in Seraikela in neighboring Seraikela-Khaswan district, Rs 1 lakh was also withdrawn from his account from Sinha’s ATM, the SSP said. The kidnappers had asked Sinha to give the remaining Rs 46 lakh to Ranchi soon after he was released.

The police officer further said that in the course of investigation, the police had questioned a person named Santosh Kumar Prasad. Prasad allegedly drove the victim’s car after the abduction.
