JAMMU: Joint teams of revenue officials and police on Sunday raided multiple locations in various parts of Jammu district in connection with a case pertaining to missing revenue records.
Sources said that the raids were conducted after several complaints were received regarding encroachment of state land by some miscreants, allegedly with the help of revenue officials. Sources added that residences of some retired revenue officials, who were allegedly involved in tampering and misplacing land records to benefit land grabbers, were raided by the teams. Many patwaris, girdawars and tehsildars are under the scanner of probe agencies.
Pertinently, on November 5 last year, taking strong cognizance of missing revenue documents of Sunjwan and Chowadhi in villages bahu tehsilJammu divisional commissioner Raghav Langer had directed an SDM-level officer to register an FIR and probe the matter.
A committee constituted for random verification reported that ‘latha’ and ‘massavi’ (revenue maps) of the two villages were missing and not available with field revenue officials. However, on December 12 last year, the revenue department claimed to have traced 95% ‘lathas’ and ‘mussavis’ where the records were reportedly missing or in poor condition.
