Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter in Awantipora, one terrorist killed. Search operation underway

New Delhi: An unidentified person has been killed in an encounter between security forces and alleged terrorists in Awatipora’s Bargam district on Sunday morning.

Inspector General of Kashmir Police Vijar Kumar told ANI that “Encounter started in Bargam Awantipora. One terrorist has been killed. The operation is on.”

Police also said that the search operation is on and detailed information is awaited. “Security forces launched a cordon and search operation following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in Baragam area of ​​Awantipora in South Kashmir district,” an official told PTI.

“While the security forces were conducting searches in the area, the terrorists fired upon them,” he said.

Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “Encounter has begun in Badagam area of ​​#Awantipora. Police & security forces are on the job. Further details will follow. @JmuKmrPolice.

Police further said, “#Awantipora encounterUpdate: 01 unidentified #terrorist killed. #Operation is on. Further details will be given.

The official further said that the exchange of fire was going on and further details were awaited.

The incident comes after the killing of two policemen in the Valley on Friday evening. According to the police, some militants opened fire on the policemen standing in the market to take stock of the situation.
