Professor Akhtar requested the President to consider the excellent performance of Jamia on various parameters and accord the University the status of Institute of Eminence.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Najma Akhtar recently met President Draupadi Murmu and sought her assent to certain developments for the university. During the meeting, Professor Akhtar requested the President to consider the excellent performance of Jamia on various parameters and accord the status of Institute of Eminence to the university.

He also sought approval for setting up offshore campuses, setting up medical colleges and additional faculty positions. , In a brief meeting, President Murmu congratulated Professor Akhtar for the achievements of the university and praised him for taking the educational institution to new heights.

According to the press statement issued by the university, the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia highlighted the need for a medical college and informed the President that the university has already appealed to the government to provide it. He also mentioned that it is highly needed not only for the people living in South Delhi, but also for the people living in nearby cities of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The VC also informed the President that in view of the great demand for JMI’s academic courses in countries where Indians live in large numbers, such as the Middle East, the need of the hour is to set up offshore campuses of the university in those countries. He also requested permission to set up a Department of Modern Indian Languages, a Nursing College and Faculty of Alternative Medicine in the University.

As the number of academic programs in the university increased, Professor Akhtar also sought additional teaching and non-teaching positions in Jamia. During the interaction, the Vice-Chancellor also informed President Murmu that the University wanted to set up a Department of Tribal Studies and Development and a hostel for tribal students and requested him to accept the proposal.

He also mentioned that the faculty of Jamia is doing excellent research work and receiving accolades at national and international levels including Visitor’s Awards. Professor Akhtar also extended an invitation to him as the visitor for the upcoming convocation of the university in the capacity of the President.

The university statement also said that Professor Akhtar also briefed the President about the excellent performance of the Residential Coaching Academy (RCA), JMI, which since its inception has produced great students including this year’s IAS exam topper Shruti Sharma. A number of civil servants have been prepared.
