Legendary English pacer James Anderson, who last played a T20 match in 2014, has registered himself for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which are scheduled to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo on Tuesday (November 5), the 42-year-old pacer, who finished his two-decade-long international career in July 2024, has registered himself for a base price of Rs 1.25 crore. While Anderson, whose last T20I appearance for England came in 2009, has put his name in the auction pool, England’s Test captain and star all-rounder Ben Stokes has opted out.

It was reported a few days ago that Stokes will not take part in the mega auctions, and according to the available information, the star cricketer, who last played in IPL 2023 for CSK, has decided to keep himself away from the cash-rich league. Since Stokes has not registered himself for the mega auctions, he can’t take part in the IPL 2026 as well because, according to new IPL rules, “any overseas player will have to register for the big auction. In case the overseas player doesn’t register, then he will be ineligible to register in the following year’s player auction.”

As many as 1574 players have registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction, of which India’s KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer are in the category of players who have kept their base price at Rs 2 crore. In addition to the three IPL 2024 captains, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal are also in the Rs 2 crore base price category. Chahal and Ashwin were released by the Rajasthan Royals despite playing a big role in the team’s success in the last three seasons of the cash-rich league.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who hasn’t played since the ODI World Cup 2023 final, is also part of the Rs 2 crore club along with Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, T Natarajan, Devdutt Padikkal, Krunal Pandya, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav.

Mumbai cricketers Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan, who last played in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, have registered at a base price of Rs 75 lakh.

Among the overseas players, Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who joined KKR for Rs 24.75 crore in IPL 2024 auction, has registered himself for Rs 2 crore along with England pacer Mark Wood and Jofra Archer. Archer and Wood both missed the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league due to injury-related issues.

Australian batter Steve Smith, who was seen doing commentary in IPL 2024, will also be part of IPL 2025 mega auction. Italy’s Thomas Draca, who played from Brampton in the Global T20 Canada, has also put his name for mega auctions.
