James Anderson not happy being out of England, keen to return ‘later summer’

England pacer Jimmy Anderson is currently unable to come to terms with his omission from the Test squad for the ongoing three-match series against the West Indies in the Caribbean, and is expected to return to the squad “later in the summer”. ,

Both Anderson and pacer Stuart Broad were surprisingly ruled out for the West Indies tour after England’s 4-0 loss in the Ashes series in Australia, although both the legends bowled well and therefore missed out.

Anderson, 39, and Broad, 35, were replaced by Chris Woakes and Craig Overton as interim England cricket chief Andrew Strauss said he was looking at “exciting new bowling abilities”.

Speaking on boxing promoter Eddie Hearn’s ‘No Passion No Point’ podcast, Anderson said he would play for county side Lancashire in the interim, but would continue to aim for a return to England.

“As long as I feel I can compete at the top level, I want to do that. When it doesn’t, I have to decide what to do. Whether I play for England this year or not, This is a great opportunity to go back to Lancashire and play for them.

“I’ve had a central contract for 15 years or so, so I haven’t played a huge amount for them. So, it would be really nice to give them some back and try to help them win the championship title,” Anderson said in the podcast, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Anderson is the highest wicket-taker in Test history and the third-highest wicket-taker overall.

“I still don’t want to look too far ahead, I am looking forward to the start of the season in April and the time I have the appetite and passion to play for Lancashire and hopefully it will take me to England later in the summer.” Anderson said.
