Surat: A 23-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon was arrested by Surat city police on Tuesday for allegedly threatening Maharashtra cabinet minister Aaditya Thackeray, who is also Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s son. Police arrested Dhananjay Nikam when he was waiting to catch a train to his hometown. The city police had received specific information about Nikam from his counterpart in Maharashtra.
As per the details of the case shared by Nikam with the city police, he is a BSc graduate and lives in Shahpur village of Jalgaon district. Presently unemployed, he was troubled by not getting OBC post-matric scholarship for last one and half year. He also tried to give representation to Thackeray, but did not succeed.
They searched Thackeray’s phone number on the internet. He got a mobile number and tried to call him at least thrice. None of his calls were answered after which he sent an SMS ‘I will kill you’. After this he went to Mumbai and went to Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar. He tried to meet Thackeray but the security personnel asked him to come after the Ganesh festival.
Nikam later took a local train from Dadar and reached Borivali. From there he took the Dadar-Bikaner train to Surat railway station. He was waiting at the city’s railway station when the police nabbed him based on specific information about his location.
“The Maharashtra Police was looking for him after Nikam had sent a threatening message to Aaditya Thackeray.
“Meanwhile, he had come to Surat to avoid being caught, but our team arrested him,” said a city police official.
