Jahangirpuri Violence Live Updates: Delhi Police begins probe into Hanuman Jayanti clashes, tightens security; BJP’s visit site

It was being organized on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. Delhi Police personnel were seen patrolling sensitive areas of North-West Delhi throughout the evening on Saturday evening to prevent any untoward incident.

Most of the senior officers of Delhi Police including Special Commissioner of Police (CP), Law and Order, New Delhi, Deepender Pathak were present at the site of violence at the time of filing this report. Talking to IANS, the Special CP said that the situation is now peaceful and under control.

Pathak said, “We have registered an FIR in the incident and started investigation into the matter.”

The senior officer appealed to the people of the area to maintain peace in the area.

“Police are present in sufficient numbers in the area,” he said.

Police in large numbers along with paramilitary forces can be seen patrolling and patrolling the violence-hit area.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP leaders on Saturday called the clashes a “conspiracy” and demanded a probe into the role of “illegal migrants” in the incident. Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta and party MP Manoj Tiwari said the “attack” on the procession was “not a spontaneous incident but a conspiracy”.

Clashes broke out between two communities during a procession in Jahangirpuri on Saturday, in which several policemen were injured.

The violence that took place around 6 pm resulted in stone-pelting and some vehicles were also torched, police said. Additional police forces have been sent to the area and other communally sensitive areas.

Former AAP minister and BJP leader Kapil Mishra said the stone-pelting on the procession was a “terrorist attack” and demanded immediate expulsion of illegal immigrants from the country.

The Delhi BJP president said he would meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and urge him to order an inquiry into the violence. He also questioned how water and electricity connections were given to the settlements of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in Delhi.
