Jahangirpuri clash: Trouble for VHP-Bajrang Dal, case filed against them

New Delhi: In another major development in the recent Jahangirpuri violence, Delhi Police registered a case against religious groups Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal for taking out Hanuman Jayanti procession without prior permission, ANI quoted DCP NW Usha Rangnani.

According to Rangnani, the Hanuman Jayanti procession during which stone-pelting and violent communal clashes broke out in North Delhi’s Jahangirpuri were organized without the permission of the police.

Meanwhile, the accused Prem Sharma, District Service Chief- Vishwa Hindu Parishad has been arrested.

Jahangirpuri violence investigation

At the same time, another accused has been arrested on Monday. According to the police, 36-year-old accused Sheikh Hameed is a scrap dealer and during interrogation he revealed that he had supplied bottles which were used for stone pelting during the Jahangirpuri violence.

So far, the Delhi Police has arrested 22 people, including the “main conspirator” behind the clashes, and a man who allegedly fired the bullet at a sub-inspector.

Two youths have also been arrested in connection with the assault.

Owaisi accused of unilateral investigation by Delhi Police

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday in the context of Jahangirpuri violence said that unilateral action is being taken and communal violence happens when the government wants it to happen.

Responding to allegations of unilateral investigation, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Monday said that the police is not discriminating against anyone.

“During the investigation, if we find evidence against any person, we will take action and arrest them, irrespective of class, creed, community and religion. We are not discriminating against anyone. Now The 23 people arrested till now belong to both the communities,” the commissioner averaged at a media briefing.

Delhi Police on Monday held a meeting at Jahangirpuri police station to maintain peace in the violence-hit area in the north-western parts of the city, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Usha Rangnani said that the meeting of the Aman Committee was held at 1.30 pm at the police station.
