Jadavpur University teachers threaten to boycott exam process if conducted online

Terming the students’ demand as “unjust”, the Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) and the chapter of the All Bengal University Teachers’ Association (ABUTA) of the institute said they would boycott the examination process if the decision to conduct it offline is reversed. . “JUTA has taken a unanimous decision not to participate in the process if the end semester engineering examination is conducted in online mode, instead of the already adopted decision of the examination board to conduct it offline in the campus this year. Because it would mean giving in to the unjust demands of a section of the students,” teachers’ body general secretary Partha Pratim Roy told PTI.

Abuta also echoed Juta in calling the students’ demand “unjust” and criticizing the VC’s gherao. ABUTA spokesperson Gautam Maiti said, “Our member teachers will also refrain from participating in the examination process if it is conducted online.”

However, Vice Chancellor Das said that the decision of the examination board is final and will not be reversed. We will not accept such demands of the students. I have clearly told them during the gherao that this time the exam will be conducted offline. A spokesperson of FETSU (Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students’ Union) said that since the classes were conducted in online mode in the last two years, the final semester exams should also be conducted online.
