Security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Kupwara and killed a terrorist in an encounter at Jumagund. Police said one AK47 and seven grenades were recovered.
An unidentified terrorist was killed in an encounter in Jumagund area of Kupwara. The army and police are at work. Further details will follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted late Saturday afternoon.
Army officials said there was an attempted infiltration or BAT action in Kupwara’s Keran sector on January 1, in violation of the ongoing ceasefire between India and Pakistan across the LoC. Deployed army troops thwarted the bid and eliminated the terrorist, identified as Mohammad Shabbir Malik from Pakistan.
Indian Army officials said, “This clearly establishes that Pakistan is sponsoring cross-border terrorism. A hotline communication has been sent to the Pakistani Army asking them to take back the body of the slain person.” “
Jumagund falling in the Keran sector is close to the LoC and remains a route of infiltration. One terrorist has been killed in the operation being carried out by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and 4 Sikh Regiment of the Army.
Police said a massive search was going on.
