TMC insiders said Mamata Banerjee did not react when JD(U) veteran Nitish Kumar was proposed as the INDIA bloc convener because she sensed something and also alerted the alliance members

Right after TMC boss Mamata Banerjee declared that she will not go with the Congress in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha elections, she stressed that she was not informed about the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Hearing this, the top leadership of the Congress immediately went into damage control mode.

From Rahul Gandhi to Jairam Ramesh, all said Mamata is an integral part of the INDIA bloc and requested via the media route to join the yatra. But, the chief minister is in no mood to reconsider her decision, top sources of the TMC told News18.

“She has turned the page and is not thinking anything about the alliance in Bengal. It’s over,” said the sources.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reached out to Mamata on Friday, but TMC insiders denied this. The CM was left injured after she was involved in an accident while returning from Burdwan.

Sources said Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had also messaged her, asking her about her health but nothing more than that.

TMC insiders said Mamata did not react when JD(U) veteran Nitish Kumar was proposed as the convener of INDIA bloc because she sensed something and also alerted the alliance members. They also claimed that from the very first day, she said they were keen on giving the Baharampur (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s seat) and South Maldah to the Congress; they might have given them three seats, but the Congress wanted 10.
