New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to stay the new information technology rules that want to be regulated digital news The media said that it did not agree with the petitioners on passing such an order at this stage.
Foundation for Independent Journalism, The Wire, Quint Digital Media Ltd and Alt News’ parent company Pravda Media Foundation have sought a ban on information technology (arbitrator guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, on the grounds that a fresh notice has been issued to them to comply with the rules or else coercive action will be taken.

“We do not agree with you. If you wish, we will pass a more detailed order or if you wish, we can re-notify it before the Roster Bench. You take instructions and let us know.”
After taking the direction, senior advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan, representing the news portals, urged the court to list the matter when the courts reopen after the holidays.
The court listed the applications for adjournment on July 7 before the roster bench.
As per the amended IT rules, social media and streaming companies will be required to swiftly remove controversial content, appoint grievance redressal officers and assist in investigations.
Meanwhile, the court issued notice and sought response of the Center on a fresh petition by Pravda Media Foundation challenging the authority of IT regulations.
