Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke feels the time is right to appoint pacer Pat Cummins as the captain of the Test team despite his leadership inexperience. He added that the team’s senior captain can help Cummins adjust to captaincy duties.

“If we were on three or five years it could have been different. But with so much seniority in the team, I think it’s the right time for him. Because they can help him. After Paine’s sudden resignation, Cricket Australia had announced that they had started the expedited process of selecting the next Test captain. But, as things stand, there is no word on who will be the Test captain when the Ashes first Test begins in Brisbane on December 8.
Clarke, who has been a vocal supporter of Cummins being named captain since 2018, thinks one needs to look at how the 28-year-old relates to proceedings on the field.
“You have to give him time to get into this job. Because he doesn’t have 10 years to captain first-class or state cricket. But sometimes you can see certain things in people, and I think he’s got it. . He studies the game. He is a cricket captain. Looking at the strategy of the field. The way he talks to his players.
