The Supreme Court has expressed concern over incidents of threats and attacks on judges across the country.

The Supreme Court has expressed concern over incidents of threats and attacks on judges across the country. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana heard the matter on Friday. During this, he said, ‘There is no result of the judges registering complaints about the threats received by them. CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) IB (Intelligence Bureau) does not help them.

The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the matter related to the security of the judges and has started the hearing. During this, the court also issued notice to the Center and all the states with strict comments. He has been asked to file his reply by the next hearing on Monday. During the hearing, the CJI said, “Recently, several incidents of intimidation of judges have come to the fore in the country. A judge was murdered in Jharkhand. Therefore, file a status report before the court on the measures taken for the security of the central government and all the state judges.

Court Room Live: CJI said to the Advocate General of Jharkhand – So you have washed your hands of your responsibility
Rajeev Ranjan, Advocate General of Jharkhand:
The state government has handed over the investigation of the death of Dhanbad District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand to the CBI. The CBI has also started investigation by taking the matter into its own hands from the state police.
CJI: So you have washed your hands of your responsibility.
Rajeev Ranjan: Two people were arrested in the case by forming a special investigation team of Jharkhand Police. During his interrogation, there are indications of a bigger conspiracy. The matter seems to be related to West Bengal also. Therefore the investigation has been handed over to the CBI.
CJI: No one appeared from CBI today. There is a need to understand the seriousness of this matter on a large scale. The security of judges is ignored even when there is danger in criminal cases. The IB is also unable to provide any input in such matters. Even if a judge himself files a complaint to the police or the CBI about the threats he has received, he does not respond. Judges are not helped. Recently, a new trend has also been seen in the country. If the court gives any adverse order, it is defamed.
KK Venugopal, Attorney General: Judges need to be protected from attacks. Their security should be increased.
CJI: There are many such cases in the country in which crooks, gangsters are involved. In them, charges are leveled against high-ranking people. Therefore, in such cases judges are threatened by sending WhatsApp, SMS or other messages. Mental pressure is put on them. In many such cases, orders for CBI inquiry were also issued. But the CBI did nothing. We had hoped that there would be a change in the attitude of CBI but nothing like that happened. We are sad to see this. We are making this comment with a full sense of responsibility.
KK Venugopal: I have a list of judges who have been attacked. Now is the time to take some strict steps.
CJI: In various states of the country, the security of judges is also ignored by the state governments. The same thing happened in Jharkhand. The death of a young judge is unfortunate. This is the failure of the state government. There are coal mafia and gangsters in that area. There the judges’ residence and colony should be provided security.
Rajeev Ranjan: For the safety of all the judges, the state government has installed CCTV cameras in their residential premises. The boundary wall of the judges’ colony has also been raised. Judges are also given security. A case in this regard is already being heard in the High Court. If there are any instructions there, they will also be implemented.
