The mission is designed to deploy the 2,232 kg NVS-01 navigation satellite into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch navigation satellite ‘NVS-01’ on its Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on May 29.

The mission is designed to deploy the 2,232 kg NVS-01 navigation satellite into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

The Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said in a statement, “The launch of GSLV-F12/NVS-01 mission is scheduled for Monday, May 29 at 10:42 am IST from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.” ” Release on Monday.

The space agency said that the subsequent orbit raising maneuvers would be used to take the satellite to the desired orbit.

NVS-01 is the first of the second generation satellites envisaged for navigation with the Indian Constellation (NavIC) services.

NavIC is India’s own indigenous satellite navigation system similar to the flagship Global Positioning System (GPS), which belongs to the United States.

According to ISRO, the NVS series of satellites will maintain and enhance NAVIC with advanced features.

To broaden the services in this range, the L1 band signal is additionally included, it said, for the first time an indigenous atomic clock will be flown in NVS-01.
