Israel’s Bennett approves COVID framework to open schools on September 1

Prime minister Naftali Bennett Approved the plan to open the school on September 1, which was presented to them by the Ministry of Education and Health on Sunday evening.
The plan includes six layers of protective functions that help keep COVID-19 outside the school system. A formal announcement with details of the framework is expected to be issued by the Ministry of Education.

In general, the scheme is as follows:

No. 1 – serological test.

A series of serological tests will be done on students to determine who has the virus, perhaps without knowing that many children are asymptomatic, and still maintain an effective level of antibodies.

The program began on Sunday in ultra-Orthodox schools in Beit Shemesh, Bani Brak, Beitar Ilit, Modi’in Ilit and Elad. The tests are being conducted through local testing complexes.

If successful, the program will be expanded to an additional 1.6 million students.

No. 2 – Rapid Antigen Testing.

Parents will receive vouchers through their health fund and will be asked to take their children for a rapid test 48 hours before the start of the school year. Some 1.9 million students will be asked to take these exams.

No. 3 – Sheba Medical Center’s “Green Classroom” program.

If a sick student is found in a school, that student will immediately enter isolation. Other students or faculty members with whom the child has been in contact will be tested for seven days.

Each day, the contacts will be screened. If the tests are negative, they will go to school. If someone tests positive, he/she will be asked to remain in isolation.

The model would start as a pilot program in ultra-Orthodox schools and then be expanded to Arab schools and eventually, if effective, the rest of the education system.

No. 4 – Magan for the education system.

Exams will be held once a week in schools.

Number 5 – Vaccination.

Students and teachers over the age of 12 will be encouraged to get the jab.

Number 6 – Lifestyle changes.

All students and teachers will be asked to wear masks, maintain social distancing and good hygiene. In addition, learning will, when possible, be conducted in open areas.
