Israeli man arrested for drug smuggling in Dubai

An Israeli man has been arrested in Dubai on suspicion of drug trafficking, Hebrew media reported on Friday.

The Israeli suspect, at the age of 30, will appear in a local court for a remand hearing on Sunday.

“We know that he is being arrested in Dubai for drug trafficking in large quantities. We are in touch with the Narcotics Police in Dubai,” Uri Ben-Natan told Channel 12 News.

Ben-Natan also said that “when contact is made with our client he will be able to dispel doubts.”

The Foreign Ministry said that it is not aware of the matter yet.

According to the Walla news site, the Israeli man is suspected of being involved in smuggling dozens of kilograms of heroin that Emirati authorities found in a car.

The news site said the suspect was also involved in the sale of half a kilogram of cocaine by a police agent in Israel last year. It was not clear from the report whether he had ever been charged.

Dubai has strict drug laws, with those convicted of drug trafficking face the potential death penalty.
