Israel will ease some restrictions on Gaza.

Israel announced on Thursday it would expand its fishing area off the Gaza Strip and allow the entry of some raw materials for industries.

Permitted range for fishing will be expanded from 6 nautical miles, or some 11 km, to 9 nautical miles, or some 16.7 km, to the Office of the Coordinator of Government Activities (COGAT), Israel’s military liaison for Palestinians in the areas said in a statement.

In addition, many raw materials for “essential civilian factories” could be imported from Israel to Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing, a route for goods, Xinhua news agency reported.

The move will be effective from Friday, the office said.

The office said the easing of restrictions comes “in light of the security calm over the past weeks”.
