Isolation facility not mandatory for international travelers from at-risk countries from January 22

New Delhi: The central government on Friday said that from January 22, isolation facility is not mandatory for international travelers coming from at-risk countries.

Travelers from at-risk countries will be required to submit their samples for COVID-19 testing after arrival at the point of arrival, which will be self-paid.

“Such passengers will have to wait for their test results at the arrival airport before taking the departure or connecting flight,” the Union Health Ministry said in its guidelines for international arrivals.

“If the test is negative, they will follow home quarantine for seven days and conduct RT-PCR test on the eighth day of their arrival in India,” the ministry said.

The Health Ministry said that on the eighth day, the passengers will have to upload the result of RT-PCR test for Kovid-19 on the Air Suvidha portal, which will be monitored by the respective states and union territories.

“However, if such passengers test positive, their samples should be further sent for genomic testing to the INSACOG laboratory network,” the health ministry said.

“They will be treated/isolated as per the prescribed standard protocols,” the ministry said.

The health ministry said that the contacts of such positive case should be kept under home quarantine for strict surveillance as per the protocol prescribed by the respective state government.

The Health Ministry said that an in-flight announcement will be made about COVID-19 at airports and during travel, including precautionary measures in flights and during transit.

The ministry said that the in-flight crew will ensure that proper COVID behavior is followed at all times.

The Health Ministry further said that if a passenger reports symptoms of Kovid-19 during the flight, he will be isolated as per protocol.

“Appropriate in-flight announcements should be made by airlines regarding testing requirements and people undergoing such testing to avoid any rush at airport arrivals,” the ministry said.
