ISL Transfer: Bengaluru FC sign defender Sarthak Golui

Indian Super League (ISL) side Bengaluru FC has signed young Indian defender Sarthak Golui on a two-year deal, the team announced. The 23-year-old becomes the club’s fourth signing of the summer after Yrondu Mousavu-King, Alan Costa and Rohit Kumar and will join the Maldives side ahead of their upcoming AFC Cup playoff stage clash against the Club Eagles.

Born in Kolkata, Golui ranks with the AIFF Elite Academy and has represented clubs in the I-League and the Indian Super League. In FC Pune City, Mumbai City FC and SC East Bengal, Golui has grabbed 49 caps in the ISL before moving to Bengaluru.

“I am very excited to join Bengaluru FC. To be a part of a club that has been so successful comes with it a huge responsibility, and I hope I can fulfill all the expectations of the club and its fans from me,” Sarthak said after signing his contract. Said later.

“This step is a big challenge for me and I will give my all every single day. The management and the coach have shown confidence in bringing me to this club and I want to repay it. This move will also give me an opportunity to learn from experienced players like Sunil (Chhetri) bhai and Gurpreet (Sandhu) bhai and I look forward to meeting all my teammates soon.

Speaking on the club’s latest acquisition, head coach Marco Pezzauloli said, “He is a versatile player who can fill in both right-backs and centre-backs. Importantly, his approach matches that of ours at the club, which makes it a positive start. He has played for many clubs in the last five seasons and will only gain experience in Bengaluru.”

Golui, who represented India at the Under-16 and Under-19 levels, made his senior national team debut against Sri Lanka at the 2018 SAFF Championships in Bangladesh. With his pace and ability to take the ball further into the attack, Pezzauloli said Golui would be a valuable addition to his squad.
