ISL: Ibarra’s twin strikes beat Bengaluru FC 3-0 to win the title Mumbai City FC | Football News – Times of India

Fatorda: Prince Ibara as scored a brace Bengaluru FC defeated defending champion Mumbai City FC in 3-0 Indian Super League match on Monday.
The defeat meant Mumbai City FC missed their chance to take the top spot and collected only two points in their last five matches, while Marco Pezziol’s men are just three points away from fourth place on the table.
Danish Farooq (8th minute) gave the Blues an early lead, which was extended to three by Prince Ibara (23rd, 45th) who scored two goals in the first half.
BFC keeper Gurpreet Sandhu was called into action early as he saved two attempts from Casio Gabriel and Bipin Singh within minutes after kick-off.
However, it was BFC who took the lead through Danish Farooq, whose left footed drive from outside the box left Phurba Lachenpa no chance in Mumbai’s goal.
Ibarra then joined the party when he buried a header from close range to double the lead with only 23 minutes left. Roshan Norem’s cross was brilliant and the Congolese striker made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
The Blues continued to put more pressure on the islanders and created several scoring opportunities around the half-hour.
Des Buckingham’s team could not stop the deficit for two goals as Ibarra scored again with a header before the halftime whistle.
Roshan Norem was again a perfect corner provider who took the highest jump to drive the ball home.
Something similar happened at the beginning of the second half, in which BFC threatened to score. However, Mumbai held on to the possession more and created better chances to cut the deficit.
Sunil Chhetri He was brought in to replace Ibarra who had left the pitch due to injury. Five minutes before the hour mark, Apuia saw his half-volley from long-range hit the right post and came out.
Ajit Kamaraj replaced Naorem who was suffering from a muscle problem late in the match.
The fourth official added five minutes for the stoppage but Mumbai could not break the BFC defence. The Blues captured a well-deserved clean sheet and scored all three points in a sensational overall performance.
