Wilmar Jordan’s brace canceled out strikes from Edu Bedia and Iker Guarotxena as NEUFC held visitors FCG to a 2-2 draw

FC Goa dropped points after opening the scoring in the Indian Super League (ISL) for the first time this season as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Northeast United FC on Sunday.

FC Goa had an opportunity to reclaim fifth place in the table with a win, but will remain sixth after NorthEast United FC’s first draw of the season – and only the second time they have picked up points from a game.

FC Goa have now failed to win on the road for the sixth straight game, and Chennaiyin FC have pushed them to seventh, just four points behind them.

The opening goal of the game came after an Aaron Evans error led to a goal around the half-hour mark.

Gvarotxena darted into the box with the ball from the right before squaring towards Brandon. It was played behind him as the winger lofted it into the path of Edu Bedia, who fired a volley into the back of the net to mark his 100th appearance for FC Goa.

The Highlanders broke through the FC Goa defense through a penalty, awarded in stoppage time of the first half.

Alex Saji’s volley went off Brandon’s arm and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Just before the half-time whistle, Gill stepped up and converted from the spot to restore parity.

In the 63rd minute, a clever flick from Brandon near the halfway line allowed Noah Sadaoui to loft the ball towards goal. Leaving his marker behind, Sadaoui tried to beat goalkeeper Mirshad Mechu but was taken down by him to win the penalty. Guarrotxena sends Michu the wrong way and puts the Gaurs back in front.

The joy was short-lived for FC Goa as Fares Arnaut’s clumsy tackle on Pragyan inside the box forced the referee to point the spot for the third time during the match.

Gill stepped up to take it again and successfully converted his fourth spot-kick of the season to draw the Highlanders level for the second time in the evening.

NorthEast United FC are at the bottom of the table but have added one point to their tally, which now stands at four.
