ISL 2021-22: Hyderabad FC beat Mumbai City FC to 3-1 win

Defending champions Mumbai City FC suffered their first defeat of the season by Hyderabad FC in their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, Goa on Saturday. The Nizams won the night 3–1 and made a spectacular comeback against the Islanders who scored early in the game.

Ahmed Jahouh (6′) opened the scoring with a thumping finish from the right foot after the HFC players failed to clear his line inside the penalty area. Joao Victor (13′) leveled the game with a calm converting the penalty. HFC scored their first goal of the season with Bartholomew Ogbeche (53′) against their former team. 19-year-old Rohit Danu (82′) sealed the victory for his team by scoring the third goal.

Mumbai City FC made one change in their starting lineup as Mohammed Rakip came in for the injured Vignesh Dakshinamurthy. Hyderabad FC, on the other hand, made two changes to the squad bringing in Joel Chianis and Aniket Jadhav, while Edu Garcia and injured Halicharan Narzari lost their places in the starting lineup.

The islanders began all guns blazing with Zahou scoring from the first shot on target, thanks to a few weak defenders from the opposition. However, the Nizams were back in the game after Bipin Singh fouled Joel Chianis inside the penalty area.

Captain Joao Victor made no mistake with the penalty and Nawaz rifled it past the net, despite guessing the ball correctly. The custodian made a crucial save from Ashish Rai a few minutes later to prevent HFC from going into the lead. Rahul Bheke had a great opportunity to score in the 27th minute, but his attempt was thwarted from close range. The teams went into the halftime break on level terms.

Hitesh Sharma was the first player to be booked after being fouled on the resume at Apuia. Chinglensana Singh also picked up a yellow color shortly after. Bartholomew Ogbeche scored HFC’s second goal from close range in the second half after a superb build-up in eight minutes. Jehoah also received a warning a few minutes later for a bad challenge.

In a series of changes made by both camps, Des Buckingham sent Ygor Catatu off the bench, who replaced Cassio Gabriel at the hour mark. Following suit, Manolo Marquez replaced Rohit Danu for debutant Aniket Jadhav and Edu Garcia for the Chianese. Rollin Borges also replaced Rainier Fernandes and almost equalized in the 78th minute.

Rohit Danu then scored HFC’s third run with a powerful close-range right footed shot after a bounce off the second ball. This was Danu’s first goal in Hero ISL and he paid off the confidence shown in him by Ghaffar. Catatau was shown a yellow card for a high-boot late in the competition after frustration set in.

HFC kept in good shape for the rest of the game and took their first win of the season. Interestingly, this was also his first win over MCFC.

Mumbai City FC will next take on ATK Mohun Bagan on Wednesday while Hyderabad FC will take on Jamshedpur FC on Thursday.
