Lt Gen Hameed, who previously served as the head of internal security in the ISI, was appointed as the head of Pakistan’s spy agency on June 16, 2019, as part of a major military shake-up.

Lieutenant General Hameed, considered close to Pakistan’s army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, oversaw significant changes in Afghanistan, where the Taliban took control in mid-August.

He had visited Kabul earlier in September and told the media that “everything will be fine” in Afghanistan, when there were rumors about differences between Taliban ranks due to the delay in the government’s announcement, PTI reported.

The Pakistan Army also announced two more senior level postings.
