Mann’s statement in Hindi is a famous quote from the great freedom fighter, in whose honor the Chief Minister asked the people to change Punjab to ‘Basanti’ or yellow.

To love is our birthright. But this time, let’s make this country our love, Punjab’s new Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said while taking oath at Khatkar Kalan, Bhagat Singh’s native village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar district. Mann’s commentary in Urdu is a famous quote from the great freedom fighter, in whose honor the chief minister asked the people to change Punjab to ‘basanti’ or yellow.

“Ishq karna sabka paidaishi haq hai kyun na is baar watan ki sarzamin ko mehboob bana liya jaye,” Mann quoted Bhagat Singh as he told the attendees that there was a special reason behind choosing Khatkar Kalan as his oath-taking ceremony venue.

“For the first time we have come to the village of a martyr. Bhagat Singh should be remembered everyday.” Mann said that you will be the representative of both those who voted for him and who did not.

Mann took oath in Punjabi. Besides the newly-elected AAP MLAs, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and other leaders wore yellow turbans at the ceremony.

AAP won 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly, beating the Congress and the SAD-BSP alliance.
