The government needs to set up critical care units at the grassroots level to reduce the pressure from tertiary care centres. Indian Society for Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) on Saturday.
It states that intensive care should be made more accessible and affordable to the common man.
ISCCM President Dr Deepak said, “There is a huge shortage of critical care specialists, nurses and technicians in the country and this fact has come to the fore in the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic.” Govil said.
“The Government of India needs to set up fully functional state-of-the-art ICUs at district and taluka levels with trained personnel at the earliest to reduce the pressure from tertiary care centres. Intensive care should be made more accessible and affordable to the common man. for,” said Govil.
During its 28th Foundation Day, the Society also highlighted the importance of a Critical Care Unit in hospitals that act as a lifeline in saving patients from morbid conditions and the dire need of an efficient and technologically updated facility .
ISCCM said in a press release that medical education in critical care is a continuous process from the beginning to the end of one’s career. Similarly, technological advancement is an ongoing process and critical care specialists need to be kept updated on the latest equipment used in the facility.
