Bank Holidays in April 2022: There are 15 holidays for all private and public sector banks in the month of April. However, as the month progressed, some bank holidays were over, but many still remained for the rest of the month. April 1 was a bank holiday due to the annual closure of bank accounts of banks notified by the Reserve Bank of India, which is enjoyed by bank employees every year. Seven bank holidays being used in April, banks will be closed For eight more days out of the remaining 21 days of this month.

Banks will remain closed in some parts of India on account of Ambedkar Jayanti, Good Friday, Bohag Bihu and weekend holidays. Hyderabad is witnessing the maximum number of bank holidays this month at 9 pm, while Shimla, in contrast, has only five.

The Reserve Bank of India, or RBI, compiles a list of bank holidays every year. The list includes holidays under three categories – ‘Leave under Negotiable Instruments Act’, ‘Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday’ and ‘Bank’ Closing of Accounts’. According to that list, there are 15 bank holidays this month due to different festivals for different regions.

As per the Reserve Bank’s list, there are nine holidays due in April, while the rest are weekend holidays. However, it should also be noted that some holidays are not uniform across the country and are applicable in different states according to different occasions. Branches of all public sector, private sector, foreign banks, co-operative banks and regional banks remain closed on holidays notified by RBI.

To avoid any kind of confusion, bank customers should contact their nearest branch regarding bank holidays in their respective state before planning any action.
