Kannur Squad starring Mammootty is one of the most awaited films and has now hit the theatres on Thursday, September 28. The film was directed by Roby Varghese Raj. The team has been vocal about what the audience can expect from the film. It is inspired by a team of police officers who are part of the Kannur Squad, which was formed by the former Kannur SP S Sreejith.

While the original squad, which is still operational, has a total of nine members, the film focuses on four police officers essayed by Mammootty, Rony David Raj, Shabaressh Varma and Azeez Nedumangad. Mammooty’s character George Martin is an assistant sub-inspector, the other three play a driver and two police constables.

The film is based on Kannur Squad but also has a fictional take on two of the cases handled by the team. In a few recent interviews, Mammootty said that the film revolves around a case that the Kannur SP in the film, played by Vijayaghavan asked the team to take up even though it falls under Kasargode SP’s jurisdiction.

“The film covers the events that happened between 2007 and 2013 in real life, but has been truncated within the scope of the film that focuses majorly on two cases,” the actor explained while speaking with The Cue.

Notably, the film’s writers Rony and Muhammed Shafi had first contacted the officers of the Kannur Squad in 2018. The veteran actor also revealed that their inputs have also been used for the film which revolves around true events that had transpired.

Going by the recent audience’s reaction, the film is being lauded for its thriller action sequences. But one has to wait for the collection of opening day to see the success of the film. Hours after the theatrical release, the film was leaked online in HD, reported Times Now.
