Sudani, who took office last October, told The Wall Street Journal he plans to send a high-level delegation to Washington next month for talks with US officials.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal published on Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad al-Sudani defended the presence of US troops in his country and set no timetable for their withdrawal.

Sudani said foreign troops were still needed, referring to US and NATO troops training and assisting Iraqi units in combating Islamic State. In the interview, he said, “Some more time is needed to eliminate ISIS.”

Sudani, who took office last October, told the Wall Street Journal that he planned to send a high-level delegation to Washington next month for talks with US officials, adding that Iraq would continue to strengthen Saudi ties with Washington. Would prefer equal relations with Arab and other countries. Persian Gulf oil and gas producers.

Sudani told the newspaper, “I don’t see it as an impossible matter, to see Iraq have good relations with Iran and the US.”
