IPL 2024: Punjab Spoil Rajasthan’s Party, Beat Them By 5 Wickets

Riyan Parag Helps RR Post 144/9 vs PBKS

Deciding to bat first, Rajasthan Royals who were without their star opener Jos Buttler, started with the pair of Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and English batter Kohler-Cadmore who got to play his first game in the IPL on the night. With Yashasvi Jaiswal failing to wipe his poor form off, he departed in the first over yet again, scoring just 4 runs for the hosts.

After a gritty 36-run partnership between skipper Sanju Samson and Cadmore, both batters lost their wickets in consecutive overs courtesy of Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar who took Samson and Cadmore out of the game respectively.

It was Riyan Parag who came to the rescue for RR as his XX-ball XX steered the home team to a below-average 144/9 in their 20 overs.

RR Fail To Confirm Top 2 Spot

Chasing a modest 145, PBKS opener Prabhsimran Singh was also sent back to the pavilion on the 4th ball of the 2nd innings which put instant pressure on the visitors. Rilee Rossouw and Jonny Bairstow did try to put up a partnership together but the Proteas batter got out within the powerplay with the score at 36/2 at 4.3 overs.

Shashank Singh, who was expected to take the team home on the night saw himself walking back to the pavilion in the same over which shifted the momentum back into Rajasthan’s hands.

It was skipper Sam Curran and impact substitute Ashutosh Sharma who were handed the task to take the team over the finish line and play spoilsport for the home side who wanted to confirm a top 2 spot on the night.

Skipper Sam Curran led from the front and scored a 41-ball 63* to take the 2 points for the Punjab Kings on the night. Rajasthan’s loss meant that they still need to win their final game to seal the 2nd spot in the league with Chennai Super Kings lurking on 3rd with a game in hand.
