The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is facing some scheduling constraints for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, which will be held later this year. With the IPL 2024 auction scheduled to take place in the month of December, it will surely clash with India’s tour of South Africa – which begins on December 10.
According to a website report, the IPL 2024 auction will also try to avoid any international match clash with Christmas this year. In fact, Team India is going to start the Test match against South Africa on ‘Boxing Day’, a day after Christmas this year.
“Yes, we are aware of this. It definitely won’t happen on Christmas Eve. InsideSport website quoted a BCCI official as saying, “We will try to find a comfortable date for everyone.”

Last year, the IPL 2023 auction was held in Kochi on December 23 and due to the busy holiday season, the BCCI found it difficult to arrange accommodation. As per the website’s report, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Kolkata are in the race to host the IPL 2024 auction.
However, a final decision on the date and venue of the IPL 2024 auction will be taken only later this year. “Right now the focus is on the World Cup and once every detail is taken care of, we will move towards the IPL. We will decide the date after the World Cup. It is most likely in the third or fourth week of December. But it will be discussed later in the IPL GC meeting itself.

M S Dhoni To decide on retirement before IPL 2024 auction
Also, although IPL 2024 will be a ‘mini auction’, the total budget of the teams will increase from Rs 95 crore to Rs 100 crore. MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the defending champions after winning IPL 2023 for a record fifth time this season.
Dhoni, who will celebrate his 42nd birthday this year, will also take a call on his retirement from the T20 league before the IPL 2024 auction. This decision of Dhoni can increase the budget of CSK by Rs 15 crore.
“I don’t know, I have 8-9 months to decide. I have enough time to decide. Why take that headache now? Auction is in December. I will always come to CSK. I’ve been out of home since January, practicing since March, so we’ll see. I will always be there for CSK whether he is playing or outside,” Dhoni had said at the start of this season.
