Andre Russell scored 42 off 23 balls, Rinku Singh scored the winning runs, while Nitish Rana’s half-century helped KKR beat Punjab Kings by 5 wickets on the last ball.

Rinku returned unbeaten on 21 off 10 balls, Russell missed his half-century, scoring 42 off 23 balls to help KKR win once again.

Earlier, Nitish Rana had hit a 38-ball 51 while Jason Roy added 38 runs in 24 balls to help the two-time IPL champions post 182/5 in reply to Punjab’s 179/7.

Punjab captain Shikhar Dhawan had won the toss and elected to bat, Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed in the second over itself due to a brilliant catch by Rahmanullah Gurbaj.

Although the captain himself scored one fifty, Dhawan reached a milestone of fifty IPL half-centuries, equaling Virat Kohli’s feat in the list of most half-centuries in the league.

Jitesh Sharma added 21 runs though Shahrukh Khan and Harpreet Brar added plenty of runs in the final overs to put up 179 runs on the board.

Jason Roy gave KKR another steady start, Gurbaj failed to impress with the bat on the day but the Kolkata Knight Riders captain led his side from the front with a leader’s knock.

Russell hit three sixes in the penultimate over against Sam Curran to end the tension.

Trying to hit a boundary in the final over against Arshdeep, who bowled a very good line and length, the Caribbean cricketer was run out at the non-striker’s end off the final ball of the innings.

Rinku Singh ran for his life, the run could not be completed but the 25-year-old came on strike and hit the last ball for a four to score the winning run.
