Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan wins the toss against Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana in IPL 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, May 8.
Dhawan revealed that Punjab made just 1 change to their side, with Matthew Short being replaced by Bhanuka Rajapaksa while KKR skipper Nitish went with the same squad for the match.
Dhawan was asked about his team scoring 200 runs in recent matches, to which he said that he wants to continue scoring big in every match.

“We will bat first. The wicket looks very dry, we would like to put up a good total and defend it. It is a good thing that we are scoring 200 runs in every match. One change, Bhanuka comes in place of Laghu Looks like it will stay a bit and come,” Dhawan said during the toss.
Rana meanwhile said that he wanted to bat first as KKR is relying heavily on their spin attack.
“The wicket looks on the dry side. We are going with the same team. We wanted to bat first so that our spinners could play a bigger role later in the game. (whether the boundary is small for left-handers or not) even for right-handers it is small,” said Rana.
Jason Roy, Anukul Roy, Lockie Ferguson, Narayan Jagadeesan, and Kulwant Khejroliya were named as KKR’s impact sub-list.
Nathan Ellis, Sikandar Raza, Atharva Tayde, Mohit Rathi and Matthew Short rounded out an impressive sub list for Punjab.
