Naveen was constantly booed by the Chepauk crowd, but he did well enough to dismiss MI skipper Rohit Sharma, batting mainstay Suryakumar Yadav, all-rounder Cameron Green and the ever-dangerous Tilak Verma.

Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq was on fire at Chepauk on Wednesday night as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squared off against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator. Afghanistan pacers took four wickets for 38 runs in four overs as LSG restricted Mumbai to 182 for eight in 20 overs. Naveen recorded the third best bowling figures for Lucknow against Mumbai after last year’s heroics of Mohsin Khan (4/16) and Avesh Khan (4/24).

Naveen was constantly booed by the Chepauk crowd, but he did well enough to dismiss MI skipper Rohit Sharma, batting mainstay Suryakumar Yadav, all-rounder Cameron Green and the ever-dangerous Tilak Verma.

Talking to the broadcasters after a brilliant spell, Naveen said that after the 66-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green, the team was expecting a breakthrough from him. The Afghan speedster got rid of the in-form batsmen and dealt a blow to the MI middle order.

I think they (Green and Surya) put on a good partnership and we needed a breakthrough at that point. So, I came in as the leader of this young attack and I had to succeed. And that’s what I did. They (LSG) were expecting those two wickets from me, and I delivered at the right time,” Naveen told the broadcasters.

Naveen getting Surya and Green in one over could prove decisive as MI were at least 15 short of a par-score. MI also needed impact player Nehal Wadhera in place of Surya, whose 12-ball 23 took them past 180. Green, who scored a century in the last league match against SRH, hit six fours and a six, while Yadav hit two maximums and as many fours in his 20-ball innings.

The pacer further said that the wicket they are playing on is better than the one used in Qualifier 1 between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans on Tuesday.

“I think it’s a pretty good total, we were expecting it to grip and spin, but it was coming on to the bat nicely. You can play up (on this pitch), this CSK-GT match Better wicket than.
