Marcus Stoinis was the star performer of the match and picked up the crucial wicket of the PBKS captain of Shikhar Dhawan in his 40-ball 72 in the first over.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off a stunning 56-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Punjab on Friday. Cricket Association in match number 38 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the IS Bindra Stadium Mohali.

Half-centuries from Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Mayers helped LSG create history by posting a mammoth 257/5 against PBKS. Meyers scored a quickfire 54 off 24 balls as Lucknow started strongly. Stoinis and Ayush Badoni then shared an 89-run partnership to keep LSG steady in the middle overs. Nicholas Pooran’s 19-ball 45 helped LSG post the second-highest total in IPL history, surpassing RCB’s record of 263/5 in 20 overs against Pune Warriors India in 2013 .

Stoinis was the star performer of the match and picked up the crucial wicket of the PBKS captain of Shikhar Dhawan in his 40-ball 72 in the very first over.

Unfortunately, his Player of the Match performance was marred by an injury to his left index finger. During his second over, in an attempt to stop Atharva Tayde’s shot, Stoinis took a blow on his finger, causing him to immediately drop to his knees in pain.

The physio administered initial treatment to Stoinis before he left the field. He added that the injury could have been better, and that he would undergo a scan later.

“It’s better but yeah, it is what it is,” Stoinis said after the game. “We’ll get a scan later.”

Despite Atharva Tayde’s top-scoring effort of 66 off 36 balls for the home team, the Punjab Kings failed to chase them down as the required run rate was around 13 runs per over. Punjab got dismissed by scoring 201 runs in 19.5 overs.

Though Tayde played well and registered his maiden IPL fifty-plus score, Liam Livingstone (36 off 22) and Sikandar Raza (23 off 14) could not last long enough to put pressure on the opposition.

Also, in his return, captain Shikhar Dhawan could play only two balls. LSG’s young pacer Yash Thakur was the most successful bowler with figures of 4/37 in 4 overs.

Despite their best efforts, Punjab Kings suffered their fourth defeat in eight matches, while LSG picked up their fifth win in eight matches.
