Chennai Super Kings made it to the finals of the ongoing Indian Premier League season by winning 9 out of their 15 matches.

And then there were two.

Chennai Super Kings is back in its place. IPL 2022 was an anomaly for the four-time champions as they finished second from last. They made a comeback by first qualifying for the playoffs as the second best team in the league stage and then defeating favorites and defending champions Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier to make it to the final – for a record 10th time.

A lot of factors have contributed to his stupendous run. Their opening pair of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad have provided solid starts on a consistent basis. The middle-order is contributing well and then CSK skipper MS Dhoni is putting the finishing touches despite himself suffering from a knee problem.

Their bowlers improved rapidly as the season progressed. Ravindra Jadeja has been at his all-time best, Mathisha Pathirana has developed into a reliable death overs bowler, while Tushar Deshpande has also come into his own.

CSK have also refrained from tinkering with their playing XI which has been their hallmark.

CSK and GT have clashed four times in the IPL so far. For the first three times, GT emerged victorious and CSK beat them for the first time during the first qualifier in Chennai earlier this week.
