After losing all five of their IPL 2023 matches so far, Delhi Capitals are at the bottom of the standings

Delhi Capitals are facing a poor start to IPL 2023. Most of their key players are out of form, they have lost five matches in a row and now, they keep on getting injured.

Ahead of their clash with Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday night. DC have suffered another setback with young pacer and 2018 U-19 World Cup winner Kamlesh Nagarkoti reportedly suffering a back injury and being ruled out for the entire season.

Nagarkoti has not played a single match for the franchise so far this season. The youngster has been battling injuries since the Junior World Cup, spending significant time at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

It is not that DC do not have quality players in their squad. They have T20 World Cup winner in David Warner, who is also leading them this year, all-rounders Mitchell Marsh, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav among others.

However, they have not been able to put up a good show so far and remain the only franchise out of the 10 that is yet to win a game.

There are reports that head coach Ricky Ponting may exit the setup with Sourav Ganguly being eliminated as the prime candidate to take over the role.

Meanwhile, struggles from Shaw, Yash Dhull, Lalit Yadav mean DC have called up uncapped Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyam Garg for trials midway through the season, with the franchise having maximum squad strength.

“The maximum squad strength is 25 and DC has the maximum squad strength. Now whether he will replace someone or not is not known. As of now, both are on trial,” said an IPL source tracking developments in DC. PTI,

Left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed is suffering from a hamstring injury after playing just two matches so far. The team management, however, is positive that he will be fit in time.
