Chennai Super Kings clinched a record-equalling fifth IPL title, chasing down 171 against Gujarat Titans in a rain-curtailed affair in Ahmedabad. Ravindra Jadeja hit a six and a four off the last two balls of the chase to seal a five-wicket win.

Naturally, the CSK stars were in jubilation, celebrating, shouting, hugging their teammates and loved ones.

A major contribution to CSK’s victory was the form of their opener Devon Conway, who also won the player of the match award for his 25-ball 47 in the summit clash.

And during a post-match interview with the broadcasters, Conway said that the title win was the ‘biggest win’ of his career.

“Personally, the biggest win in my career. An IPL final, nothing gets bigger than this. A lot of credit to fellow left-hander Mike Hussey. It’s nice to be in his shoes,” Conway had said.

Fans of the New Zealand cricket team were outraged at the statement and criticized Conway for rating the IPL if they win the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 when they beat India in the summit clash.

Now, Conway has hit back at the call, saying it was the ‘best T20 win’ of his career but not his best.

“I think it’s the best T20 win of my career, I wouldn’t say it’s my best win. But definitely the best T20 win or achievement of my career.”

“I think the Test Championship final, to win it for New Zealand was definitely very special,” he said.

Conway said that playing regularly for CSK in IPL 2023 was a great experience.

“It was a great experience, I was lucky enough to play a few matches towards the end of the IPL last year, so I got a taste of what it is like, what the pressure is like, what the team expects from me. Top-order batsman,” Conway said.

Conway said the faith shown in him by the team management throughout the campaign has helped him bring out his best.

“Having that support (opening) from the first game during this campaign has definitely helped me to be at my best and find my rhythm throughout the tournament,” he added.

The 31-year-old said the experience will help him coming into the ODI World Cup to be held in India later this year.

“A lot of surfaces usually suit the batsman. So, I’ve really enjoyed training hard on many of these surfaces and playing on different grounds, noting what changes from one ground to the next,” Conway said.
