Shikhar Dhawan completed a catch haul of the IPL 2023 season as he dismissed David Warner with a full-length dive for 46

Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan showed his athletic side on the field as he took a sensational diving catch on Wednesday to dismiss Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner before the Australian opener could complete his half-century. Warner, batting on 46, got his team off to a brisk start but Dhawan’s brilliant catch paved the way for Punjab as they achieved their first success on May 17 at the Dharamsala Stadium in Himachal Pradesh.

Prabhasimran Singh hit a century when Delhi Capitals last met Punjab Kings, paving the way for Punjab’s blockbuster win that knocked DC out of the race for the IPL 2023 season playoffs.

The two sides renewed their rivalry in Dharamsala when Dhawan won the toss, however, Delhi started the match on a surprising note as the DC opener flew off the block.

Prithvi Shaw returned to the side and joined hands with Warner as the two openers stitched a 94-run stand before Sam Curran drew first blood for Punjab.

The English all-rounder bowled a full-ish delivery which was lofted by Warner without control of the shot. The ball rose high in the air and Dhawan called for a catch.

The veteran batsman covered a lot of ground before diving full length to complete a breathtaking catch and then celebrated with his trademark ‘thapki’ celebration.

Shaw hit a half-century on his return to the playing XI, ending a torrid campaign that saw the former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain ousted after a series of low scores earlier in the IPL 2023 season.

Shaw was eventually dismissed for 54 off 38 balls before being dismissed by Curran as Atharva Tayde took another fine catch near the boundary ropes.
