The IPL Governing Council has found both the players guilty of breaching the code of conduct and has also imposed a heavy fine on them as punishment.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen played a brilliant knock of 44 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday night. However, the South African got into trouble for making ‘inappropriate comments’ during the game. The IPL Governing Council found him guilty of breaching the code of conduct and fined Klaasen 10 per cent of his match fee as punishment.

Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 58 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on May. 13,” the IPL statement read.

Klaasen admitted a Level 1 offense under Article 2.7, which deals with the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment, in the IPL Code of Conduct.

The game was stopped for a while after he expressed dissatisfaction over the umpiring hauler during the SRH innings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. A high full toss by Avesh Khan was adjudged a no-ball by the on-field umpire, which SRH saw Abdul Samad bat through the inside edge for a single. However, LSG reviewed the decision and strangely, the TV umpire ruled it a fair delivery, saying that the batsman had leaned slightly when facing the ball.

Samad and his batting partner Heinrich Klaasen were not happy with the latter’s interaction with the on-field umpire, expressing their disappointment.

“Frustrated with the crowd, to be honest, that’s not what you want. It broke the momentum, not great umpiring either,” said a disappointed Klaasen during a chat with the broadcasters.

Amit Mishra punished his celebration

The IPL Governing Council has also slapped Lucknow Supergiants leg-spinner Amit Mishra for celebrating after dismissing SRH opener Anmolpreet Singh on Saturday.

“Amit Mishra has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Mishra admitted a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with misuse of equipment during a match. Mishra accepted the approval.

It added, “The match referee’s decision for a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct is final and binding.”

During nine overs of the match, SRH skipper Markram hit Mishra for a six off the third ball. However, the veteran spinner made a comeback a few balls later to dismiss opener Anmolpreet Singh. Mishra showed brilliant reflex to execute a catch and Anmolpreet was bowled for 36 runs. After taking the catch, Mishra slammed the ball down the ground, prompting a furious celebration after removing the SRH opener.
