IPL 2022: Suryakumar Yadav suffers nursing thumb injury, may miss opening match of Mumbai Indians

Star batsman Suryakumar Yadav may be ruled out of Mumbai Indians’ IPL opener against Delhi Capitals on March 27 as he is unlikely to fully recover from a hairline fracture on his thumb.

Surya, one of the four retained by Mumbai Indians, got injured during the T20I series against the West Indies and later missed the assignment against Sri Lanka.

“Surya is currently doing his rehabilitation at NCA. He is on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening match will be a real touch-and-go affair,” a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“So there is a possibility that the board’s medical team may advise him not to take the risk of playing as an opener,” he added.

For MI, Yadav is the most important batsman apart from skipper Rohit Sharma and his Rs 15.25 crore ‘buy-back’ Ishan Kishan. So, there is no way that even the MI team management will take any risk as they have a bigger picture to see.

MI have a gap of five days after their first game and will next play Rajasthan Royals on April 2. It’s believed that a 360-degree power-hitter would be good to go by then.

“I think from the second MI game, he will be 100 percent match fit. If he doesn’t play the first game it is likely more of a precautionary measure.”

Yadav was in excellent form during the T20I series against West Indies where he won the ‘Player of the Series’ award.

Two DRS referrals per team, MCC rules apply

The BCCI has informed all the franchises about the playing conditions and a welcome addition is the provision of two Decision Review System (DRS) referrals per team.

Also, all the new rules suggested by the MCC will also apply, meaning saliva will not be allowed to shine the ball, a restriction that came into force due to COVID-19, but as a permanent change by the custodian of has been codified. Cricket Law.

The new MCC code has been run-out of a law relating to “unfair play” on the part of non-strikers, popularly referred to as ‘mankading’.

The dismissal, which has often led to debate over the ‘spirit of the game’, is now classified as just a run out.

The new rules of MCC in international cricket will come into effect from October.

Rohit, Bumrah join MI team

India and MI captain Rohit Sharma along with his family and pacer Jasprit Bumrah entered the team bio-bubble in a bubble to bubble transfer. Both completed their national team assignments against Sri Lanka on Monday.

MI’s Twitter handle uploaded pictures of their captain and premier pacer entering the team hotel in Mumbai.

Since it has been a bubble to bubble transfer for the national team duo, they will not be required to undergo a strict three-day quarantine (confined to hotel rooms) as per the rules.

This rule applies to all players joining their franchise in a bubble to bubble transfer.
