IPL 2022: Sunrisers Hyderabad invested a lot in me, just want to give my all for them – Nicholas Pooran

West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran has said that a bad IPL season is not going to change the player in him and he now wants to give his 100 per cent to his franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming 2022 season. League.

The 26-year-old had a disappointing IPL 2021, where he averaged 7.75 with the bat for Punjab Kings. However, SRH still showed faith in the attacking batsman and bought him for Rs 10.75 crore in the mega auction.

“… Just because I had a bad season, it’s not going to change the player that I am. I’m doing pretty well in international cricket and everyone sees it. For me it’s about giving back to my team. It’s about – Sunrisers have invested a lot in me and so I just want to give my all for them – for me, it’s about being the best version of myself,” Pooran was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Pooran also mentioned that he has learned a lot from the last IPL season and is a better player now.

“Such things happen; Everyone goes through patches in their career. Last year in the first game, I got a duck on the first ball, then in the next game, I got a duck on the second ball. Eventually, I went out to bat and didn’t face a single ball, got run out (laughs). I am not paying much attention to it, I believe I am a much better player now and I have learned a lot from that IPL season.

The left-handed batsman was the costliest West Indies player in this year’s IPL auction.

When asked about the huge price pressure, he admitted it, and said that it is his job as a professional cricketer to perform for the team under any circumstances.

“As a professional player, sometimes I think it happens, especially when you are not doing well, the media target you, a lot of fans criticize you, so it [the fee] Definitely plays a role. But as a professional it is your job to leave that noise behind and try to perform for the team.”

The wicket-keeper batsman believes that every player has technical flaws, but for him it is more about mental thinking and clarity in his game.

“Every player has technical flaws, but for me it is more mental, there is that clarity in my game. Once I get to that clear spot, I think I’ll be fine. As you can see in my last few T20 matches, last three international series, I have started getting into that mindset, knowing what I want to do. So hopefully this continues and people stop saying that I need to keep proving myself.”

Pooran is also looking forward to working with fellow Trinidadian Brian Lara, who is SRH’s batting coach.

“Yeah, we’ve had some conversations in the recent past. When it comes to batting and how he looks at the game he’s just awesome, amazing. So yeah, looking forward to that opportunity to work with him.” ,” They said.

Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Rajasthan Royals at the MCA Stadium in Pune on March 29.
