Former India head coach Ravi Shastri heaped praise on Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill and called him one of the most talented players in world cricket at the moment. Gill made his international debut for India on the 2020-21 tour of Australia when Shastri was India’s head coach. However, due to frequent injuries, he lost his place in India’s Test XI. The talented batsman is playing for Gujarat Titans to get back his place in the national team.
After registering a zero against Lucknow Super Giants, Gill displayed his class with a scintillating knock of 84 runs against Delhi Capitals. The talented batsman impressed many with his variety of shots against a quality bowling attack to register his highest T20I score.

Shastri was also impressed with Gill’s performance against LSG where he faced just 6 dot balls.
“He is pure talent. The man is one of the most talented players in this country and in world cricket, to be honest,” Shastri told host broadcaster Star Sports after Gill’s 84-run knock against DC.
The legendary India cricketer further spoke about the characteristics of Gill’s white-ball player and said that his strike rotation and shot selection are the keys to his success.
“Once he gets going he will score and he will take it easy. He has that punch, he has the timing and he has the power to clear the ground.”

“He is made just for this format of the game. It’s just his shot selection, his rotation of strike that he talked about himself. Very few dot balls today that took the pressure off him. And he is the person who will drive the bad balls away,” he added.
Shastri further said that the Gujarat opener is quite comfortable with the short ball which has been a weakness of many Indian players.
“He is very good on the short ball, the short-arm jab we saw in his innings. And it will make his confidence a world good,” Shastri said of his knock.
