Kolkata’s batting line-up was a master of their own downfall. Wanting to fight hard against anything that came his way, he fell while attempting to play exceptional strokes rather than adjust to the match situation. Apart from Hasranga, Akash Deep took three wickets while Harshal Patel took two wickets.

The Bengaluru pacers found the right length on a tough pitch: short of a good length and extra bounce came out. Kolkata were dealt an early blow in the fourth over as Venkatesh Iyer tried to nudge a short length ball from deep to leg-side, only the top-edge was being driven to his left.

In the next over, Ajinkya Rahane missed a short delivery from Mohammad Siraj to take the bridge straight to deep square leg. Pace short ball from the deep, some with a far tip, claimed a missed heve to Nitish Rana on the leg-side as David Willey ran past backward square leg and caught in the final over of the power-play. A slide was made to complete it.

After the power-play, Bangalore put Kolkata in more trouble as Shreyas Iyer was dismissed at long on by Hasranga. Sunil Narine sets up some fireworks by hitting the deep for a boundary at mid-off and a six over the keeper’s head.

But in the ninth over, Naren bowled a straight ball at backward point off Hasranga’s delivery. On the very next ball, Hasranga cast Sheldon Jackson with a beautiful googly. However, Andre Russell had other plans. He starts by slog sweeping Hasranga over deep mid-wicket.

Patel struck his fourth ball of the night, forcing Sam Billings to hit his slow short ball straight over long on. Russell then punished a errant Shahbaz Ahmed for sixes at deep mid-wicket and long-off.

But Patel disappointed Russell with four dot balls and on the fifth ball, the pacer had his man as the big-hitting right-hander tried to hit a short ball outside the off-stump from the off-side, But took a lead behind the keeper.

Hasaranga took his fourth wicket as Tim Southee logged-on. Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakraborty hit some boundaries to take Kolkata past 120. Yadav smashed Deep for a six and a boundary before the pacer ended the 27-run partnership off 26 balls by dislodging his leg-stump with a yorker.
