India’s World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten may return to IPL. According to a report in Cricbuzz claims, the South African may soon be made the head coach of the Ahmedabad franchise along with India bowler Ashish Nehra. Both of them were also in Royal Challengers Bangalore. In fact both were part of India’s World Cup winning team, which had Kirsten as coach and Nehra as a player. The two know each other very well and if approved, they can make friends in Ahmedabad. Kirsten had worked with Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore twice in the IPL.

Meanwhile, the report further states that former England player Vikram Solanki may also join his coaching staff. Earlier, the CVC-owned franchise was reportedly also in talks with recent Indian coaches. Some of them include the likes of Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar, who until recently were part of India’s coaching staff.

IPL 2022: Investment firm CVC Capital gets nod from BCCI

CVC Capital, which owns the Ahmedabad franchise of IPL, will reportedly get approval from the BCCI after a controversy erupted after it emerged that it has links with betting and gambling companies. With a bid of Rs 5,625 crore, an investment firm CVC Capital in October this year won the bid for a new IPL franchise that will be based out of Ahmedabad.

However, soon after a successful bid was placed for the team, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi alleged that the BCCI did not do its homework as a qualified bidder ‘owns a large betting company’.
