IPL 2022 Final: Lasith Malinga on Riyan Parag’s Attitude – ‘This is what we need’

Riyan Parag gets general abuse on Twitter after Rajat Patidar was dropped in the second qualifier against RCB Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This was nothing new as the youth of RR are often thrashed for their ‘attitude’ on Twitter. He was also accused of not scoring runs. However, the team’s bowling coach Lasith Malinga has come out and supported the cricketer citing his fielding skills.

Earlier this week, Parag broke CSK star Ravindra Jadeja’s record for most catches by a fielder (non-wicketkeeper) in a season. And Malinga lauded Parag’s brilliant fielding efforts throughout the season.

“I’ve really enjoyed Ryan’s fielding in the last 15 games. He has so much energy, he’s so athletic. He is always in the game,” RR’s bowling coach said in a video uploaded on RR’s official Instagram handle.

We all know that he didn’t get many chances to bat. But the energy he brings with his game on the field is amazing. I don’t think you can see it in any other team. I am very happy with the energy and attitude that he brings to the team. This is the attitude we need,” he said.

In 16 matches this season, Parag has scored 168 runs at a strike rate of 143.58. He is a part of the franchise since 2019.

Rajasthan Royals cricketer Riyan Parag on Friday once again came under the target of cricket fans on social media. This time in-form Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Rajat Patidar for dropping an easy catch during the second qualifier IPL 2022. Patidar scored a memorable century in Eliminator Clash against Lucknow Super Giants.

Fielding at backward point, Parag’s attempt to take a cut shot by Patidar in the final over of the reverse cup powerplay failed. The RCB batsman was batting on 13 runs.

Fans were quick to react to his dropped catch.
